New Experiences

By Luke Kennedy

Returning after the Easter break has given us an opportunity to reflect on our time at the seminary so far. There have been plenty of new experiences to encounter as we settle into the routine of seminary life. As a group of ten, our schedule has involved academic studies at Catholic Theological College and in-house formation, as well as community prayer.

Reflection and training has been centred around the four pillars of seminary formation: human, spiritual, intellectual, and pastoral. These have been engaged with by studying at Catholic Theological College, and through examining the Catechism, liturgy, and John Paul II’s document on seminary formation ‘Pastores Dabo Vobis’ with the seminary staff.

One unique aspect of the first term is the opportunity to spend our Saturdays doing a fun activity together as a first-year group. This has included activities such as bush walking, fishing, bowling, and going to the driving range. We also have gone to watch the horse racing at Flemington, and the Trans-Tasman Ice Hockey Challenge between New Zealand and Australia. All of this has been mixed together with food and drink which has created a great sense of fraternity and support in the group.
