Summer School 2026

By Nicolas Calandra

The Seminary Year begins with Summer School: a series of presentations and classes interspersed with prayer and brotherhood.

This year we were pleased to host the menALIVE team.

MenALIVE run missions in parishes which connect men to their Faith, and to each other.

They ran a series of high quality sessions about different topics including our identity in Christ, common challenges today, and ways of cultivating necessary fraternity and friendship.

I was personally inspired by the testimonies they shared. They are men of authenticity and faith.

One of the things they shared about was how they facilitate men doing prayer each day with Scripture, using the S.O.A.P. Method. I appreciated its' simplicity. It encourages us to just get stuck into reading the text.

Scripture: Read the Gospel of the day.

Observation: consider what the text says.

Application: Apply this to your life.

Prayer: Respond to this in the presence of God. What are you moved to do, or ask for from God?

Thank you to Robert, Peter, Harin, Doug, Joc, Glen, and Michael!

Please visit the menALIVE website for more information, especially if your parish might be interested in having them come to visit. https://menalive.org.au/

During Summer School, the seminarians also enjoyed two outings. We attended the Sidney Myer Free Concert featuring several pieces including Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5.

Summer school concluded with a day out to Albert Park driving range.
