My Lord and My God

By John Vespa

My Lord and my God,

We see you present among us and we thank you.

We thank you and we love you.

Thank you for loving us like you do.

For loving us for who we are.

For being present with us when we are not present to ourselves.

Your guidance helps us through.

Your love is genuine and true.

You told us to love one another as you loved us - and that is what we try to do.

All of us here. Each and every one of us are brothers on a journey trying our best to follow your word.

And little by little we grow closer to you in formation and little by little we grow more and more to be who you have destined us to be.

Lord Jesus, thank you for calling us to be here. To have the opportunity to adore you in the Blessed Sacrament.

In today’s second reading, St. John implored us to stop sinning and said that you are the advocate with the Father, who takes not only ours sins away but the sins of the whole world. Help us on our daily journey to keep your commandments. Helps us to obey so that God’s love will one day come to perfection in us.

Following this, in the Gospel the disciples told their story about what happened on the road to Emmaus. and how they recognized you at the breaking of bread. You then spoke to, and opened the minds of the disciples, to understand the scriptures.

We ask you Lord, please be with each one of us in our daily journey during the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist. If you so desire help us and teach us to understand the scriptures. Through the guidance of the Holy Spirit help us to hear what you want us to hear when the word is proclaimed and allow us to truly see you present in the breaking of the bread.

Lord God,

Jesus.

For this and for many other countless things we thank you and we love you.

Amen.
